Aurowtown, May 20.— Dredging at the Nevis is assuming most gratifying proportions. This was expected from the first, and though so far expectations have not been realised the results attained are very satisfactory, (silk's Ngpara and Nevis dredges are doing well, as much as 50oz per week per dredge being nothingout of the common. Such gettings act, as a matter of course, as an incentive to other dredging companies. Two or three are in a forward state with the construction of their plant, and several others have the material ready to make a start with building, but owing to tbe "bad state of the Garston-Nevis dray road and the late fall of snow nothing can hedone until spring sets in and the road is repaired. All tbe dredgable portion* of the Nevis Biver and some of its bank"! and flats are pegged off, and before long dredging will havetranstornied the most elevated goldfield in Otago into a scene of unwonted activity.
