TAIERI LICESSING COMMITTEE.

The annual meeting of the Taieri Licensing Committee was held at Mosgiel on Tuesday, and attended by Messrs E. H. Carew, S.M. (chairman), W. Show, A. Douglas, G. Samson, and T. J. Leary. BENEWALS. Applications for the renewal of publicans' licenses were granted to the following persons ; Joseph Cox, Terminus Hotel, Out rani ; Alfred Henry O'Keeffe, Oubrara Hotel, Outrani ; William Read, Crescent Hotel, Allanton ; Ann Webb, Railway Hotel, Micidlemarch ; Eliza Constance Peters, Sfcr&th-Taieri Hotel, Middlemarch ; John Wilson, Green Hotel ; Adam Houlston, Commercial Hotel, Green Island ; John Hogs, Kaikorai Hotel, Burnside ; John Crane, Coach *ud Horses Hotel, Saddle Hill; Elizabeth O'K&ne, Commercial Hotel, Moegiel ; William Kuott, Railway Hotel, Mosgiel. Mr W. C. MacGregor appeared in support of the application tor Ann Webb, of the Railway Hotel, Middietnarch. AN EXTENSION OF HOURS. Elizabeth O'Kane, William Kuotr, A. H. O'Ketffe, and Joseph Cox applied to be allowed to olose their premises at 11 o'clock p.m., instead of 10 o'clock as at present. The committee were of opinion that an extension of the hours of selling was unnecessary. The applications would all be refused. ACCOSIStODATION T LICENSES. John Walsh applied for an accommodation license for a house at Deep Stream. — The Chairman said the application would ba granted but the committee thought that as the population had increased in the locality of the house the fee must now be raised again to the price it was before — namely, £5. An accomocation lieenEC was granted to Irving White for the Brighton Hotel, the license fee being fixed at £10. The following applications for accommodation licenses were also granted : — Wm. Lovell, Hindon Hotel (license fee £5) ; Alexander M'Donald. Clark's Junction (license fee £7 10s) ; Mary Johnston, Lee Stream Hotel (license fee £2 10s). APPLICATipXS FOR NEW LICENSES. Thomas C. ii, George applied for » new license for the Commercial Hotel, Berwick. Counsel having been heard, The Chairman : I tako upon myself the responsibility of advising the committee that we hare no power to grant new licenses, and on that ground the application will be refused. • John O/Leary appSied for a license for ths Reliance Hotel, Ofeakia.— The Chairman : This is in the same position. The application will be refused. LIGHTS. The Chairman said that the rule hitherto existing would be continued — namely, th&'o lights would have to be kept over the front doors until the hour of closing, with the exception of three nights before and three nights •ffcer full moon.
