The first meeting of the new Licensing Committee for the Waikouaiti district was held at the Courthouse, Port Chalmers, at noon on the 3rd, i

and attended by Messrs W. M. Innes (presiding), J. Cable, J. W. Harrison, W. S. Lucas, and J. Porteous. The clerk read a telegram from Mf Carew that he would leave Dunedln by the next train. The Chairman said the committee had agreed to adjourn the meeting until the arrival of the train. At 1 p.m. the committee again met ; present — Mr E. H. New licenses were granted to Michael Kane, . Railway Station Hotel. Waikouaiti, and Frederick ! Rogen, Evansdale Hotel. I henewals. Renewals were grauted to William J. Waters, Port Chalmera Hotel ; Ellen Chick, Chick's Hotel; Robert Sharp, Marine Hotel; John Collins, George Hotel ; David Leech, Provincial Hotol ; Benjamin D. Lightbourae, Crescent Hotel, Mausfordtown (Mr Platts for applicant) ; James Doherty, Coney's Family Hotel, Portobelto; Joseph. Archibald Auge, Seacliff Hotel : John Colehan, Saratoga Hotel, Waitati. EXTENSION OF TIME. Mr Platts made application for an extension of t hours until 11 o'clock on bahalf of W. J. Waters, ' Port Chalmers Hotel; BDen Chick, Chick's ■ Hotel ; David Leechj Provincial Hotel ; Robert Sharp, Marine Hotel ; and John Collins, George Hotel.— Granted. Micbael Kano, Railway Station Hotel, Waikouaiti. — Mr Calvert appeared for the applicant. —The committee declined to grant the application. ' FRONT DOOB. LAMPS. Leave was given to extinguish the lights in front of the licensed houses when closed, and to be extinguished three nights before full moon and three nights after ; the lights to be kept at Waitati and Evansdale all night. The Chairman stated that the committee had, received favourable reports from the police in : each district. ! BRUCE. The Bruce Licensing Committee mot at Milton at noon yesterday, all the members of committee being present. Renewals were granted in all cases. The application of Mrs Luks for a transfer of the liceuie of the Stirling Hotel to Robert Lowe was agreed to. Eleven o'clock licenses were granted as follow :— T. B. All the other applications foirenewals were granted, with an extension to 11 o'clock here and ia Eketahnna. 1 At the annual meeting of the Licensing Committee for the Waitaki district all the licenses applied for were granted, there beiug 21 renewals and six transfers. It was decided to grant 11 o'clock liceuses to houses which had previously held such licenses. The New Plymouth Licensing Committee on FrjHay granted all renewals, the police report being favourable. Au application for an extension to 11 o'clock at Jiuhotn wan refused. At the Wellington City licensing meeting on Friday all hotel licenses for 11 p.m. were granted, but the committee refused the applications fop New Zealand wive licenses.
