IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.
London, Jane 1. In the House of Commons, the Hon. J. Chamberlain said that the Canadian Government ware fully satisfied as to the competency of Petsrsen and Co. to cafry out the contract for the inauguration of a fast Atlantic steam service. In the House of Commoas in Committee on the Employers' Liability Bill, Mr Maclean, member for Cardiff, moved the omission of " coal miners " from the clause providing payment by way o£ compensation for accidents to -workmen. Mr Chamberlain said that the fears of the coal owners wers greatly exaggerated, and in no case was the burden placed on owners equal to that on the colliery proprißtors of Germany. The amendment was withdrawn. June 2. In the- House of Commons, Mr Chamberlain stated that the law officers of the Crown were considering tha protests made by Belgium and Germany against the reciprocal clause favouring England in the Canadian Tariff Bill. Jane i. In the House of Commons the Employers' Liability Bill was further considered in Committee, when the Right Hon. J. Chamberlain carried an amendment permitting the commutation of a pension at the end of a year at the request of either the employer or workman ; an arbitrator to settle the amount to be paid in lieu of pension.
