Heriot Railway Terminus. TO THE EDITOR.

Silt, —l noticed in your paper the other day a short paragraph about the largest train of stcck, &c, that ever left Kel«o: Would your correspondent kindly let us know what proportion of stock, &c:, left Heriot en that day ? Ifc would seem from your correspondent that Kelso was the " end all" of the railway. Not £0, however. There is a place called Heriot, which ia the terminus of (he railway. We have sgitated times and again for a sfcationmaster, but the powers (hat be make out that the traific will not warrant a stationmaster. It; would be a very interesting study to perns-e the why and wheiefore—how the department arrives at such a conclusion. I am safe in faying that, given fair play, long ere this we would have ' had a stationmaster. Why, Sir, a farmer goes to Heriot, a stationmaster is at Kelso, and if the farmer wishes to wire to the nearest stationmaster re trucks he can do so atbJs own expense. The train and guard are away from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it is generally during these hours that the teams arrive, and if one requires to see the guard he has either to make a very early fifcatt in the morning or else wait until after the arrival of the train, and that means driving home at all hours of the night. At Kelso there is a stationmaster and cadet (included in their work is Heriot), and »t Heriot a postmistresß. I feel satisfied that it could be easily managed if the department only were willing. — I am, &c, ~ Crookston, April 20. Farmeb. ; j | i j j I j
