UNIVERSITY OF NEW ZEALAND.

A special cession of the senate of the university was held on Monday, there bsing present — Sir J. Hector (chancellor), Professors J. M. Brown, Cook, Sale, Shand, Scott, and Mr W. D. Milne. The chancellor took the chair at 10 a.m.

The senate, after perusal of letters from the agent of tbe university in London and correspondence with various students, proceeded to consider the detailed reports of the examiners in England on the examinations of November, 1896, and also the reports of the examiners in New Zealand on the Bpecial medical examinations of April, 1897, lately held in Dunedsn.

The senate pasbed a resolution ot condolence with the widow of the late Professor Wallace, of Oxford, England, who had been an examiner for the university, and who was killed suddenly by a fall from a bicycle in February last ; als3 a resolution of thank.* to the master of Balliol College, Oxford, who h*d undertaken to complete the work left unfinished by Professor Wallace.
