OPENING A RAILWAY.

Pahiatua, May 3,

The weather was glorious for the opening of the Eketahuna-Woodville railway. Over 2000 assembled on the station, and a special train brought up another 1000, including the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, Messra Hogg and O'Meara, M.H.R.'s, Messrs Rouayne, Blow, and others of the Railway department. The Mayor (Mr Vile) read an address of welcome to the Hon. Mr Hall- Jones, and referred to the benefit the district would receive from the opening of the railway, Mr Hall-Jones, in reply, expressed his belief that the opening would cause the district to progress more rapidly than in the p»at. Tbe Minister and party were entertained at luncheon, and the tram left at 4.15 for Wellington.
