THE BUSHY PARK ESTATE.
THE MINISTER FOR LANDS AND MR HUTCHISON. (From Our Otvn Correspondent.) Wellington, April 27. The following extraordinary correspondence, considering the position of the parties, saw the light to-day :—: — " Wellington, April 26, 1897. "The Hon. John M'Kenzie, Wellington. *• Dear Sir,— You are reported in the New Zealand Times of the 22nd inst. as having stated at a public meeting held at Newton on the previous night, with reference to the Busby Park transaction, ' that if anyone wanted to hear any more about Busby Park he was prepared to give him a letter to his sons' solicitors, and they could see the whole of the deeds.' Might I ask you to let me have such aa authority ?— Yonw truly, "G. Hutchison." " Office of the Minister for Lands. ." Wellington, April 26, 1897. "Dear Sir, — Your letter of even dr.te to hand. I extremely regret that as pet usual you are a little too late, the fact of the matter being that the deeds referred to in your note went south by to-day's mail to my con at Bushy Park. Howftver, I c»n suggest a way out of the diffioulty which you may perhaps feel inclined to take. Go south and ask him in perEon to allow you a perus»l of the deeds. My son is a true bred Highlander, and has all the characteristics of his r&ca. I have not the slightest doubt he would give you » warm Highland reception, such as his forefathers were in the habit of giving S*ssenaohs and Lowland loons. As I understand that you are an expert angler you thould take yo'ir fiihing rod with you, and thus combine buiiness with pleasure. If you are fond of shooting it will •. be unnecessary to take a gun, a« I can vouch for it that my sob will be only too happy to fix you up in this respect. While enjoying yoor■elf there, you would have ample opportunity of seeing the estate and testing tht quality of tho Boil.— Yours truly, " John M'Feszie, " George Hutchison, Esq., Welliugto-i." It will be remembered that last yeAr Mr M'Kenzie took his coat off and "squared up" to Mr George Hutchison in the lobbies of the Houee, buG was prevented (mainly by the Premier) from doing him grievous bodily barm. The recollection of this incident will no doubt give re»ders some clue to the kind of Highland | hospitality thtt would b9 meted out to Mr ; George Hutchison at Busby Park. I
