Invcrcargill brought from Preservation lulet on Saturday morning 6i)4oz Bdwt of gold, the result of five weeks' work in the Morning Star Company's claim, and valued at £2460. The amount of stone operated upon was 398 tons. The report which accompanied the cake is of a most satisfactory character, and shows that, in addition to the valuable stone on which the company is now operating, the reef promises to retain its richness as the cutting in co-tinues. What is known as the top level has been driven further into the hill to the extent of b'ift 6in (the reef at this point beinp 2ft 6in wide), and some very tine stone is showing the whole distance. This level has uow'been driven in for 331 ft, and with the exception of a small break of 20ft it has borne gold in large quantities. The stopes between this level and the next an- being worke-1 for a length of 125 ft, and continuous gold is showing. The company have also commenced stopiug between Nos. I and 2 levela. Ten new berdans are on the fi*>ld, and are expected to be in use in about six week«, when the company will be able to put through 25 per cent, more stone. The total amount of gold taken trom this claim for the l*nt 12 months is 40230z from 3070 tons stone, value £1tf,462. No particulars have lj»en received regarding the operations ia the Golden Site Extended .Company's mine, but prospecting is being actively prosecuted, and indications ara of a promising nature.

Vigorous prospecting is being carried on with encouraging reports on the Chatherton property, and the Dot claim, which is supposed to be in the Morning Star line of reef, and the Coal Island claims.
