SOUTHLAND LAND BOARD,

The ordinary meeting, held on Tuesday, April 13, was attended by Messrs J. M'lntyre (in the chair), A. Baldey, and Duncan King.

A transfer of section 12, block XVII, Long" wood, from Sabin* Scully to Gustav Miske was sanctioned, subject to the. conditions being complied with in 12 months.

Charles Woodward appliei to surrender sections 53, 54, block V, Longwood, and to select other land, as there was no water on the sections. He bad cleared the land for a house, bub wiun he sunk for water could get none fib for domestic purposes. — Surrender granted.

B." Cosgriff'a application for Knn 517, Lillburn, was held over till next meeting

A. Lind, iv response to a communication from tha board, made an explanation of bis reason for non-cceupation of section 4. blcck VII, Waiau, which he wished transferred to his uncle. He stated that it was impossible for him to reside on the land, 'as it was too pcor for him to make a living on it. — Transfer refused ; Liudto apply at nest meet'ng to surrender.

The Surveyor-general wrote stating ihit tho Minister did not obj» ct to the remission of fine to Hamilton and Rowley.

The Southland Education Beard requested that sections 84 and 90, block 111, Seaward Bush, ba reserved for a school site. — Government to bo recommended accordingly.

The Southland Acclimatisation Society wrote with reference to the applications to lease Long Island, that the society was not in possession of sufficient information to enable ie to form an opiuion as to the desirableness of leasing. — Held over.

The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board applied for a license for section 5, block 111, DanieltowD, formerly held by E. C. Roberts. — To be informed that the license has lapsed, and a transfer could not be granted. Section to be offered at auction.

The National Mftrfcgage and Agency Company applied fur a continuance of a lease of sictionu in Dipton township. — License to be renewed.

W. H. Mitchell was granted a lease of sections 37 and 39, Niagara township

The offer of G. Anderson and J. Harper for the right to cut timber on all nuxelected sections at Waimatua, block XXIII, luvercargill Hundred, waa accepted on certain conditions.

The ranger reported on the application of W. P. Lawrence for a grazing right over sections between Waimatuaand Woodend. — Sections to be put up to auction.

Robert Barron and Jnmes Merrifield each app'ied to lease sections 4 and 21, Danieltawn. To be offered at auction.

F. F. Twemlow and James Johnston wrote requesting that the tramway be closed m section 6, block 111, Seauard Bush township, and for authority to use the tramline through sections 8 and 9 as a road for access to the town belt road. — After discussion it was decided that the members present in-pect the lccilfty.

J Favel apolied (o lease section 19a, block 11, Osama. — To be offered at auction.

C. Cowan, on behalf < f Colonel Chalmers, applied for a temporary lease for three years of Run 521, Wairaki. — Government to be recommended to grant license.

James King applied for a grazing license over Clifden township, stating that he would be willing to give up any sections sold at a week's notice. — To be offered at auction, roads by river to be excluded and town belt included.

Messrs Skeggs and J. Pat' ergon were granted permission to cut sleepers on section 19, block' IX, Oteramika Huudred, on certain conditions.

Consideration of » letter from Mrs X Fraser re payment for valuation of improvements on Run 214 a was held over.

J. Griffin, for whom Mr Rattray apppared, applied for a refund of £5 14-s, being three months' rent on perpetual leace 4-16, of which purchase was completed on March 11 — Government to be recommended to grant refund.

It was decided that James Burke receive £6 2s 6d for improvements on sections 33 and 44-, block IV, Campbelltown Hundred.

W. H. Murray was grauted permission to cut sleepers on section 59, 60, and 61, block 111, Seaward Bush townsteip, on usual conditions.

Applications for land were granted to William J. Harris, Longwood ; Thomas Kelly, Wairio ; William Molloy, Danieltown ; Thomas Molloy, Danioltown ; William Shead, Campbellfcown Huudred ; John O. Clapp, fWairio ; Robert Birron, Danieltown ; Andrew M'Bride, Wairio ; John Morrah, Tutur&u ; Elapeth Rhind, Loanend ; Oliver Kelly, Danieltown ; Andrew Sear!e, Danieltown ; John Westlake, Paterson Disfcriot: William Snodgrass, Wallace.

A title was granted to C. H. J. Clare U. respect of section 65, block V, Campbelltowa Hundred.

It was decided to recommend the Minister to approve cf titles being granted to John Arthur and Patrick Fordo for sections ab Longwpod.

Tiansfers were granted as follows: — Louis Garden to Henry Garden, section. 12, block IV, Longwood ; Thomas Lockerbie to Ebenezer Lockerbie, section 820, Hokonui ; Ebenezer Lockerbie to Thomas Lockerbie, section 813, Hokonui. An application to withdraw from a transfer from Thirza George to Mary Pay of seotion 13, block V, Makarewa, waa granted.

Routine business was transacted, and the board adjourned.
