April 19.— Special evangelistic services were held in the Dunback Schoolhouse by Mr Duncan Wright, of the Dunedin City Mission, commencing on Sunday, 11th inst., and continuing until Wednesday, 14th inst. Judging by the large attendance .tnd the marked attention paid to the speaker every evening, the services were ?. success.

Presentation.— On Wednesday evening the Rev. W. Panton Brown, minister of the district.

on behalf of the members and adherents of tb€ Dunback Church, presented Mr Walter Murray with a beautiful morocco writing case, with a silver plate affixed, bearing the following inacription : " Presented to Mr W. Murray by his friends of the Dunback Church as a token of esteem for long services, Hth April, 1897," and Mrs Murray with a handsome silver cruet atand. Mr Brown said that as Mr Murray was retiring from the committee, his friends thought it desirable to honour him with some token of esteem and respect for his long and faithful services, he having been connected with the church for nearly 30 years — first as collector, and latterly as secretary to ths committee. He, therefoie, on behalf of these friends, had much pleasuie in presenting Mr Murray with a handsome morocco writing case. He also said that, any mau in doing any work was greatly benefited iv having a good helpmate, and Mr Murray was privileged to have that in tho person of Mrs Murray, and he had much pleasure in presenting her with a handsome silver cruet.— Mr J. Ritchie said he was very pleased to see that the people of the district took notice of the doings of the church committee, and said that it was a wellknown fact that, before they had a manse ie the district, every minister who came found his way to Mr Murray's house, where he always received a hearty welcome. —Mr Murray, in returning thanks for himself and Mrs Murray, said he felt very grateful for the handsome presents, and thanked those who assisted in getting them. He said that he never-anticipated such an agreaable surprise, as anything he h'wl done wai done as a duty, and that although he was retiring from the committee, he wan not retiring from the church, and would always be willing to do anything in his power to further the cause. He again thanked them all, and sat dovn amidst greit applause.— Credit is due to Mr P. Laing manager of the D.1.0., who was entrusted with the duty of selecting th« articles for his excellent choice.
