April 20.— Considerably over 1000 people attended the Hibernian Society's sports yesterday (Easter Monday). Many people from the outlyiog districts were present, and many competitors also came from other places. The wrestling events were especially interesting. T he lljst and under event was won by J. Dickson (Gore), wi-h M. Stivenson (Riversdale) second. A. Hoffman (Gore) won the heavy-weight wrestling, with the well-known Gore wrestler, R. Scott, becond. tfofftnau's wrestling was much admired. The Publicans' Handicap was won by C. Robins (Gore), who aho won the Hibernian Handicap (120 yds) in 12Jsec. I'he sum of £55 was taken at the gate*, and the society will now have a very neat little balance to credit. Catholic Concert.— The Catholic concert in the Town Hall on Monday evening was an unqualified success. The hall was so crowded that people were not only not able to obtain seating accommodation, but had actually to be turned away f ronr the doors. Siiekp Dog Trial.— There are very good entries for the Gore A and P. Association's sheep dog trial, which will be held on Wednesday, the 21st. inst., and farmers are taking a good deal of inteiest in the contest Oats. — There i 3 considerable excitement among farmers as to a further rise in oats, and the maiket here is being watched very keenly. The other day a farmer obtained 2s a bushel for a quantity of Sutherlands (on trucks). Siiecp. — This (Tuesday) morning there is a very large entry of sheep at the lojal Corporation Yards— the larger entry for a long time past, (joodp'ices, too, are anticipated, as the upward tendency in the grain market creates a buoyancy here as well.
