| Februaby 2. —The showers we have had latelj have come rather late to do much good, and the ground is so dry that they are hardly felt. Tho harvest will be a email one this j ear. There are a few passable crops, but they are the exception, and in the way of turnips there is scarcely a crop in the district Otago Central.— The rails are now laid as far an Capburn Bridge, the cutting 3 are completed to Kokonga, and the work ia well ahead between there and Kweburn. I see the cylindors are en route for the Tait.ri Bridge. No ballasting: .has yet been done, but probably the rails will be laid to Kokonga, and the ballasting be done buck from there. Jockey Club.— The Hyde Jockey Club bava a Rood programme out for the 10th. and several horses are in training. If the weather is favourable they will have a good turn out. Ecclesiastical.— The Rev. J. Griffiths Jias been inducted into the charge of the Presbyterian church for Middlomarcb. and Hyde. A social was held in the school to welcome Mr Griffiths on the evening of the 22nd, and was largely, attended.
