PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.
The oidinary meeting of the Portobello Road Board was held on Saturday last and attended by Messrs Dick Eon (in the chair), Macandvew, Hinkley, Seaton, North, Milne, Kellas, and I Edwards. Mr Alex. Clark appeared asking the ,board to make a deviation of the road to his property in block IV, the deviation to be made through Mr itochford'R property in block VI. It was re<olved that the finance of the board would j ■ not allow of such an uudertaking aud that no , ' action be taken in the matter. The Toll Collector ' wrote stating that a man came to near the toll i bar riding on a bicycle behind a horse and trap, j I and that he then got into the trap, taking the bicycle with him, and so passed j throufch, but when clear of the toll he got i out of the trap, mounted the bicycle, and rode to ! Broad Biy. This was evading tbe toll fee with a vengeance.— lt was resolved th*t the letter be placed in the hands of the hoard's solicitor to take action in the matter. Messrs M/Ta^gart and j Granger requested the board to metal about 15 ! chains of road leading to their property. The members of the district were requested to inspect and report nt next meeting. A d^putatii.n from the Dunedin Cycling Club waited on tbe board, asking a reduction of the tq'l fee on bicycles, and it was agreed that a committee be appointed to meet ths club on Tuesday, the 9th mat. A mau from the Kaik asked the board for tome benevolence as he was nor, able to work, at.d it was agreed to recommend the Benevolent Trustees to grant 4s per week. Accounts to the amount of j £58 3s were passed for payment.
