June 29.— A long mild spell of weither of the dull and muggy kind marks this wint&r as very t'ilfenjct from that which Kurowites experienced last season.
Agricultural.— Rather too much rain during the past week has been - the only drawback to ploughing and other farm work, and so settlers in this district are, as a rule, mu-h. further forward with all kinds of farm work than they were at thii time last year. A good many sheep are being fattened on turnips throughout the district, and tho open easy winter is helping on the operation very much, Pound.— The County Council, at the request of a number of ratepayers, have decided to opsn, or rather re-open the stockyard at Mrs Hille's farm as au impounding yard. Rabbits.— The rabbit poisoning is said to be very successful this winter. ■School Matters.— School?, of which we have throe iv the district, are now being closed for the winter holidays.
