June 30.— Not for many years has there been such beautiful weather for the season. It is not like winter at all with the bright sunshine and ''clear sky. Croakers say we shall pay up for it yet, but I think we can afford/ to take the chance and be content meanwhile with the blessings we are enjoyiug. Band Contk§t.— It has been arranged to hold a f econdclasfi band contest on September 23, with the following prizes :— First, £20; second, £10;. third, J25. Quickstep competition— first, £5 ; second, £3; third, £2. 'Ihe Dresden Company hns kindly presented a valuable cornet as a prize. It is probable that solo competitions will also be held, and already the interest taken in the movement is very encouraging.
