CLYDE.
June 29.— The weather is much warmer than it has been for many, w^eks past ; the frosts at night are not at all so cold or sharp as to make the atmosphere altogether unpleasant. Indeed, It may be said that we are enjoying such weather as is usually looked upon as givingpromise of an early spring. Leap Year Ball.— This event came off on Friday last, and was quite the success the ladies desired it to be. The invitations sent out were responded to in person by all the bachelors within a radius of some IS miles, while several heads of households and their partners also put in an appearance. The Town Hall was tastefully deco- . rated for the occasion, the walls being draped vrith flags and bunting, while two very pretty • boughs of mistletoe were suspended frsm the • ceiling, aud from these depended cards upon which sr.ilabln mottoes were letteied out The supper f' 4 " i ''e fairly groaned under the variety of ' delicacies provided forthedelectatian of th- inner • man, and some fii) couples graced the board with smiling faces and no very indifferent appetites, as -Was manifest at a later stage of , the night's entertainment. The music was • creditably rendered by Messrs Koyle (violin) and Pearson ■ (pianoforte). Mrs Pearson acted inthe capacity • of M.C. during the fore parb of the nißht, and gave entire s&'isfaction ; while after mid.night Mr W.
