FAIRFAX.
June 24.— Prior to retiring from the mastership of. the Fairfax School Mr J. A. Scott was the recipient of Bftveral presentations from the scholars. By the boys he was presented with a handsome silvermounted walking-cane and a pocket knife ; from the gjr|s:in tho Seventh Standard he received a gentleman's travelling companion, while.an.urn.Dor "of. other girls, -handed him a beautiful hand- . kerchuf: Mr Scott 1 , who 'was' completely taken: by surprise, expressed the pleasure he felt a$ the kindly,»?eeling which prompted the -scholars' to ■ present him .with such handsome -gifts. To b's i attureft that he had a hold on the affections of his scholars filled him with a feeling of thankfulness ' and satiif action that nothing oould take away. The Fairfax School Committee, at its last meeting, unanimously adopted the following resolution :— " That Mr Scott's resignation be accepted with regret. During tho 12 months he has occupied the position of head master of this school he haa shown himself to be a successful teacher, and a man of iterling worth, who has justly won the esteem and confidence of both parents and children."
