HALF-MOON DAY (STEWART ISLAND).

ffrjNß 22 —Our fishing progresses apace, and one coat brought in 16001b of coa on Thursday last as the reward of the labours of three men for two days. The result in cash exceeded £7, which was encouraging. The new company, of which Mr Mutiny is manager, have erected a fish shed, and nave nearly completed a new jetty also. A good tew -tons of cod nave been brought in this month, and the haudß in the various sheds have consequently been kept busy. For the present, however, the boats are idle until the wind and sea nave subsided, for the weather has been bad tince Saturday night— strong easterly gales, with high seas, prevailing, It has been remarked*that fish are becoming very scarce near the bay, but at a distance from 1 home, along the coast beyond Saddle Point, for instance, they are very plentiful. It is considered probable that the home grounds require a rest, and those interested may be expected, if wise, to take steps in that direction. The Mails.— Last week our mails we're conveyed by the smart little s.s. Despatch, as the Awarua had gone to Port Chalmers for some necessary repairs. • * ■ '• The Ward Association. —The J. G. Ward affair caused a considerable sensation here, and further details are anxiously awaited. Ecc. t siastical.— The Rev. Mr Cotes lws beon taking soivices here for the Anglican Church, and preached to large congregations. '
