OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the committee of the Ofcago Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held ab the secretary's, office on Saturday morning, and attended by Messrs James Smith (vice-president, in the chair), John Angus, C. S. Reid, James Shiel, A. C. ' Stronaoh, James Gow, J. A. Stewart, R. Charters, W. Jaffray,D. Bacon, James Ouhhie, W. H. Taggarb, A. MTarlane, W. Patrick, and Robsrt Gawn. A considerable amount of correspondence was received, including letters from Messrs J. f^B. MaoEwan and G. M. Thomson agreeing bo 00-4iribute articles for the society's annual journi>L It was Voided to ask the Government that a copy of thes^jU dealing with tubercnlosis be submitted to thfriqembera of the society previous to being brought bei^ the House. Mr W. D. Stewatv. wrote resigning his ' ; position on thecommitteeb^Jngtohis departure for Wellington, andenolosingXaubscripfcion for the following year. — Mr A^xM'Parlane moved—*' Thab bhe resignation of Mp W. D. Stewart be received and accepted with "regret,and thab a record be made on the minuteiroithe valuable assistance rendered by him during the years he has boon associated -.with the society, and wishing him every success in his new sphere."— The motion was seconded by Mr W. Patrick and carried, and the secretary was instructed to convey a oopy of the same bo Mr Stewart. Several suggestions were received from exhibitors in connection with bhe next winter show, and it was decided to let them stand over until tha now committee.is elected. The Seoretary read a draft of the proposed rules, and a nub-committee was appointed to consider these and report to next meeting, and arrange to have thorn confirmed at the annual meeting next month. Mr' John Angus (hon. treasurer) submitted a balance sheet which showed the nuances of the society to be in a satisfactory condition. Stveral members expressed themselves highly pleased with the~year'B results, and, on the motion of £he Chairman, a bonus was unanimously voted bo the secretary for the past year. Mr Charters reminded those present that next month a new," committee would be appointed, and he regretted very much thab their worthy president (Mr John., Roberts), owing to i&hetkltb, Jiad been unable 'to take any part in' ' connection .with Jibe year's work, and hoped, that his .present trip would completely restore. him to health.". TtuTtbanks. of the committee, were due bo Mr Smith, the vice-president, for ■so- ably ..filling, the-, position- during the' regrettable illness i of Mr Roberts, and he moved thab a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mr Smith.— The Chairman, in acknowledging the. vote, said that the real success duriug' his term of office was due to the energy displayed by the whole committee, who had all worked hard in JTurthcriag the interests of'- agriculture and to make the society popular.
