Mortimer v. Van Vliet.
Game between MeasrH J. Mortimer and L. Van Vliefc, played in London in May last.

(6) Nothing wrong up t'> tlii* point, but here is 1 Where the trouble begins, If Bbxb;J) Xt xB, threatening to go to X 3, and H 5 if not exchanged ; and if after Kt-K 3, b x kt, P- x Xt, White seems to have an advantage in the open file. Probably Bp-q 4 is best. (c) Something else was wanted here— probably k-kt 2 would make all safe. (d) There is hardly time for this, but what better is there ? («) There seems to be nothing better, bad as this is.
