Xt x B is the only mate on account of the check. The game thing happens when 1 b x p, check. X. Y. Z.— Correct solutions of Tourney Problems Nos. 15 and 16. Of No. 16 he says: "A very neat and pretty little idea entirely spoilt by an . ugly triple mate." Of No. 16: "Three waiting moves, and every move a solution 1 The-pro-blem would be sound if the pieces were all .shifted one square to the 6Outh-Vrest." Three solutions to No. 16—4 points. Svkngali.— Correct solutions of Tourney Problems ' NO3. 15 aad 16,. Secoud solution to No. 15.
Of No. 16 he Bays: "This problem contains a pretty piuned mate after 1 k-k 4." Four points. O. M. M.— The composer of " Trilby " points out that you have overlooked the defence to your suggested solution. . After 1 Kt-K 5 eh, r x kt, tha white king is placed in check and there is no mate. The problem appears to be quite sound,
and is a very ingenious composition. Sinb.yd.— Solutions of Tourney Problems Nos. 16, ]6, aud 17 received. You have not given the campober's solution of No. 15, but the one given is correct and unfortunately a " cook." Solution of W0.' 16 is correct. You have also given a correct solution of No. 17, /but not the composer's. Unfortunately the problem is also unsound—3 points. A. Lower.— Letter received. Sorry that the problem turned out unsound. The idea is neat.
