NEVIS.

June I.— Our hitherto quiet and uneventful community has lately been the scene of quite a revival of the mining interest, a large number of dredging claims and not a few ordinary mining claims having beeu taken up, as also one or more coal leases ; also two extended mining licenses of 10 to 14 acres ; and we are looking forward to big things for next summer. Scuooi..— Our school committee elections SS<

suited in the return of five good and true men — viz., J. Ritchie, C. Scott, J. O'Gonnell, G. Pease, and J. Adie. The retiring committee have been doing some useful work in tree-planting and bringing a water race to the school grounds | also obtaining a nice selection -of prize books for distribution among the school children, which, however, have not yet bton distributed. Some considerable disappointment has been occasioned by the fact that our school has not been visited by the inspector during the past summer, the more so owing to the last inspection being almost a failure, it having taken place between the resignation of the former teacher and the appointment of the present one. Brunner Fund.— Our people here have come ont liberally towards tbo Brunner fund, tho sum of £10 J2s 9d being quickly subscribed. Ecclesiastical.— We have fortnightly visits from two ministers of the Gospel during summer, but we have no resident clergyman. Our young people attend nicely at the Sunday School.
