OTAKIA.

April 13 — In spite of the disagreeable weather the threshing is pretty well through, and leading away the grain general. Mort of the wheat has been Sold. I believe last week 3s 5d (on truck) for Tuscan was the beat price. Oats are mostly being stared, I think, for better prices Turnips and mangels are a good crop generally, and with plenty of straw winter feed should not be scarce in this quarter. The yieLds of grain, on the whole, were above those of last year, although in threshing some of the crops did not come up to exps ctationo. From what I can gather, red Tuscan wheat seems to give the largest yields in this district. Drainage Board. — The voting for members of the Otakia Drainage District, a boa'-d which 'has lately been formed by Order-in-Council_to raise and levy a rate for cleaning out and looking after the dram 5*5 * which connect with the large waterwheel pump lately erected at Anderson's drain, the account of tbe opening of which appeared in your paper a short time ago, took plftre on Saturday. Eight candidates stood, the following five being elected :— Messrs J. H. "Wilson. R. Rh'Tinan, Carruthem, A Souness, aud Matheson. This in a very good selection, and as they have all been heavy losers by the bad" condition and want of management of the drain by the Tafcri County CvUncil, let up hope they may set that body an example of how the drains khouldhave been looked after from the first ; and I hope that we shall not see another waste of money ia cutting drains with nothing left for keeping them in order afterwards, as has been the case in the past.
