OTAKOU

November 19.— On the sth inst. the b.b. Tarewai ran a special trip to the Kaik with members of the Queen's Drive Boating Club and their friends, and a very enjoyable dance was held in the Maori Hall, which had been engaged for the occasion by the visitors. Several local residents were present by invitation, and a very pleasant time was passed, until the steamer's whistle reminded the company that the best of friends must part; so, after joining hands anil singing " Auld lang syne," a start was made for home, which the majority Would reach probably about 2 a.m. Danxe. — The old saying, "It never rains but it pours," was fully exemplified that week, for on the Bth inst. another dance was promoted by the bachelors of Otakou. There was a full house on this occasion, aad the proceedings passed off with much enthusiasm. The bachelora will now, no doubt, be looking forward to a return danca from the spinsters. Store. — I have been informed that the local storekeepers, Messrs Wilson and Ward, have disposed of their business to Mr M'K&y, who is expected to take over the store about the Ist prox.

I wish the new proprietor every success in hit venture.
