WAIKOLA

November 25. — A meeting was held on Saturday evening in the schoolroom for the purpose of forming a Caledonian society in this district. Although only short notice wa3 given, the meeting was a large one, and much interest was evinced by those present in the formation of the proposed society. Mr A. Saxton was voted to the chair, and a strong representative committee of 11 was elected, with power to add to their number. Mr James Allan, M.H R., was elected president, and Messrs Lee Smith, A. Saxton, W. Palmer, and G. Gray vice-presidents. It was decided to name the society the " Waihola Caledonian Society," and to hold sports sometime about New Year, probably on Boxing Day. The committee, consisting of Messrs Toinkinson, F. Hanke, Frier, A. Saxton, N. Pateraon, Sinclair, A. Faterson, Robertson, and Reid, aie to meet on Tuesday evening to draw up a programme and to transact other business. As it is not intended to hold a meeting at Milburn this year, and as Waihola is the centre of a Urge district, the proposed gathering is more than likely to p v ove a successful one, and should become an important annual fixture. Agricultural. — The weather is very unseasonable, and the lately shorn sheep are suffering severely from the effects of the cold driving rain. Dairying —The local butter factory is in full working order, and the quantity of milk supplied is increasing. This is necessary to meet the demand for the produce, which is in high favour by consumers.
