Rki'Tkmbek 23.— Au exceptionally gp.vere winter seems to be over at last. The weather for the Hat few weeks has been decidedly spring-like, aud. the roads are now almost as good as in the summer. Farmers are of course ranking all haste with their sowing, and eet-m to be ma-king good pi ogress. Some of them indeed liavo ito.irly finished that operation. The season, too, has been favourable for lambing, and veiy few louses are repoited. Salvation Army. — A contingent from the "Waik-.i'i, coip'. of th« Salvation Army visited thi3 distiict on Wednesday evening, September 12, but for threa reasons their meeting was not a succpps. In the firdt place it had br«n insufficiently announced; secondly, the night chosen was unfortuuato'y that of the usual prayer meeting in the Otama Church ; and last, bub not least, the weather was anything but propitious. However, the Waikaia Salvationists mean to make another attack upon Otama next Thursday evening, nnd it is to be hoped tli9y will be move successful thin time. Matrimo.mal.— A quiet wedding took place at Morven Cottage, the residence of the bridegroom's mother, last Wednesday afternoon, when Miss Pemberton (of Dunedin) wai united in miirioge to Mr Duncan. M'Eachern, of this district. We wish the young couple all luppiness and properity in their progress through life.
