SOUTHLAD LAND BOARD.

The meeting of the board hold on Tuesday, October 23, was attended by tin Chief Comavussioner (Mr G. W, Williams), and Messrs Oowan, Kinross, and M'lutyre. The chairman of Wallace County Council (Mr ,7. W. Hamilton) appeared before the board to as* that 10 acres of Drunimoud should be vested in the Wallace and Southland County Councils as a gravel reserve.— Government to be recommeuded to reserve the area for the use ot the two counties for gravel purposes. David Lawson applied for a lease of a cal reserve on section 14, block IX, L'hatton — Kererred to the warden, the area being within a goldfield. George Hawkes app'ied for permission (• occ&py block XXIII, Wallacetown township — Held over pending the decision of the Government- on the hoard's recommendation that the price of certain, sections in the township should be reduced.

Helen Jordan applied for section 94, block VII, Invercargill Hundred. — Ranger to report. John Ayling, ferryman at Waiau river, applied for the use of about four acres adjoining the ferry.— Granted at a rental of 5s per annum, on condition that tha land is nos used as a site for an accommodation house. Darnlllthat he could not get access to section 17, block XIX, New River Hundred, the Southland County Council having intimated that they had co lunds to do the work. It was decided to reopen for application a section iv Holmesdile and one iv block XIV, Chatton, which had been declared forfeited.

The Ranger rv ported that ths residents of Croydon desired that section 775, Hokonui, should be opt-ned for application.— Section to be opened under same system as adjoining sections.

Tbe chief commissioner wes empowered to apply to the head office for authority to sue for arrears of rents on pastoral runs. Mr P. M'Ewan appeared on bdhalf of J and D. M'Lean, Mid apt.-l.cd for payment of £11 14« as half cost of a dividing fence between their land and section 791, Hokcmui.—Payment sanctioned.
