OKETI PLAINS.
OCTOBER 20.— Owing to the exceptionally fine dry weather we have experienced this spring fanning operatiors are further advanced than usual, but, although both stock, crops, and graes are looking well, it cau easily be seen that the two latter would be the better for a good night and day's rain. The gr<ss having suffered in the early part of the present month from frosts, is at least a month behind this year. The crop of lambs, like that of last year, has been very good, in some cases being as high as 140 per cent. Concert.— The Drummond annual school concert came off ou the evening of Friday, 19bh mat. The weather was fine and a large audience turned up. Mr John Merrifield occupied the ohair, and the programme, which was a long one, was contributed to by the Mi-^ea Mackintosh and JDrummond (two piano duets), songs by the Misses Shaw (Limestone Plains\ Miaa Cowie ivnd Miss Wilson (Winton), while Miss Hill and Miss Kidd, of Winton, played the accompaniments. Mr Mernneld and Mr X>. "Yonußex oack gave a humorous Scotch reading, and the latter a. recitation also. Mr W. A. Nichol (Winton) played some excellent solos on the violin, and Messrs R. Wilson, J. Wilson, M'Cormick, and M'Leod (Winton), C. Henderson (Heddon Bush), and A. Lumsden (Wyndham) contributed songs. Tha proferam me was. carried through, successfully, and each, and every item was highly appreciated and applauded. A dance followed, which was kept up to a very early hour in the morning—viz , 1 o'clock. The concert committee (in which the school committee, with, I think, one exception, weie conspicuous by their absence) deserve great praise for the energetic way in which they managed the affair. The proceeds, which were intended for the school fund, will be devoted to the- purchase of prizes for the children.
