Oamaru claims the honour of having bred the winner and runner-up of the Trial Stakes decided at the Forbury Plumpton last week, the winner, Zulu, being by the defunct Padlock — Effie Deans, and the runner-up, Christmas Hose by that good dog Carbine, out of Wioter Rose. Both Zulu and Christmas Rose were bred by Mr O. R. Wise. Zulu is owued by Mr G. Livingstone, of Ngapara, who is a good sport, and whom I congratulate on his win. Christmas Rose is owned by Mr W. Winchester, of this town, who trained Carbine when he won the Derby Stake and Waterloo Cup at Dunedin in 1891.
Dewy Shamrock, a full sister to Zulu, was accidentally run over by a trap on Tuesday, and received such injuries that she bad to be destroyed. Dewy Shamrock was the property of Mr Wise, and was iii work with a view to running in the Champion Stake next week.
