THE LABOUR MARKET.
Mr Skenb reports under date July 3 :— Although matters are still as it were in "The Slough of Despond," we must not despair, as there are signß of confidence and stable credit being near at hand, which means a revival of steady employment and wages. We deserve a blink of the sun after the many gloomy years endured. A few country people have been placed lately at the following rates .'—Station couples, £75 ; farm couples, £65 to £70; ploughmen. 17s 6d to 20s ; farm lads and dairy boys, 6s, 10s, 12s 6d ; town boys, 7s 6d ; cooks, 20s. There is not much stir among shepherds and rabbiters ; and 'our friends from Australia have wisely taken the hint and keep away.
