Nine thousand three hundred and eixty bales were offered, and, though the selection was poor, both Home and foreign buyers competed keenly, prices beiDg generally 5 per cent, above tho la^ closirjg rates. For medium greasies the riss occasionally reached 3£ per cent.

Messrs Dalgety and Co.: "Wool sales opened with an indifferent selection of wool. Large attendance of buyers. Competition very animated. Prices are on the average 5 per cent, higher than cloßiDg rates of last series. The advance is chiefly on medium and inferior qualities of greasy merino wools and pieces and locks. The advance is less pronounced for coarse crossbred fleece. Total available, including old stocks, 290.000 bales." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company: "The wool sales opened at an average advance of about 5 per cent, on last sales' closing rates. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is active. Attendance of both Home and foreign buyers is good. The total quantity available, including wool held over from last Beries, is 371,000 bales, 76,000 bales of which have been forwarded to the manufacturing districts direct."
