LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs H. Clark, W. Dallas, J. Dunoan, and A. M'Kerrow.

Fobfeiture. — The board rescinded the forfeiture of deferred-payment license 4011, Poolburn, the licensee having paid up arrears of interest. Glenomahu. — Mr J. Bwart wrote in regard to the Cannibal Bay road, Glenomaru, and this was referred to the consideration of the Clutha County Council, with the expressed hope that measures might be taken to afford relief . Mr E wart's complaint was that, though he had paid rent foe three years, he had no proper access to his holding. The i ransfer of section 51, block 111, Glenomaru district, from John Anderson to Graham Dawsou, was approved.

Poolburn. — Alexander Purvis applied to exchange his holding of sections 2, 3, and 4, block 11, Poolburn district, from perpetual lease to lease iv perpetuity.— Approved.

Maniototo.— Mr W. F. Inder, on behalf "of Andrew Patterson, applied to be allowed to acquire section 10, block XII, Maniototo district, under section 115 of the act. — Declined. Ann Duncan applied to be registeicd as licensee, pursuant to the will of the late David Duncan, of sections 22 and 23, block 111, and section 24, block 11, Mauiototo. — Approved Mr W. F. Inder, on behalf of Mr James Hore, applied for either sections 5 or 14-, block XII, Maniototo, under section 115 of the act, or for a grazing right over the lucrcation reserve. — To be allowed to acquire at a capital value of 22s per acre, or lease in perpetuity. sections 38 nnd 39, block 111, Blackstone, the board decided to inform the applicant that they did not intend to cancel the license at present held by Mr Turnbull over any part of the land, but the portion lying south-west of the roadline would not be included in Mr Turnbull's license after the date of expiry of the same in August. Applications. — r J he following applications for rural land, on lease in perpetuity system, were approved : — N. W. Ayson, section 3, block XIII, Rimu district, and D. Morten, section 13, block I, Tautuku district. D. Neill's application for rural section 41, block XII, Rimu district, was also approved. Catlins. — The board agreed to the transfer from John Macdonald to Duncan Macdonajd, as co-licensee, of section 63, block I, Catlins district.

Maerewhenua. — MrT. Chalmer, on beba'f of L. H. T. Botting, app'ied for permission to purchase, uuder section 115 of the act, one acre, being part of section 50, block IX, Maerewhenua district. — Granted, at the capital value of £2 per acre. Ristu. — Messrs R. B. Martin ax.d Son, on behalf of Mrs J. E. A. Lory, asked leave to withdraw the application ior section 6, block XIII, Rimu district —Granted. In compliance with a request, the board consented to issue the lease of section 15, block XIII, Rimu district, in the joint names of Alfred E. and Robert B. Montgomery.

Rock and Pillar — It was decided that F. Pearson pay 245, valuation for fencing on section 10, block VI, Rock and Pillar district; and that F. Lawrence Matthews pay £2 16s, valuation for fencing on section 12, block VI. Land Fund. — The board considered a letter forwarded by the Waihemo County Council, received by it from the Under-secretary for Lands, in reply to a letter re charging the cost of the administration of the land fund against the money derived from thirds and fourths, and the resolution came to was — " That the board considered that a legal question was involved in the point raised, and they therefore could give no opinion on the subject ; but looking to the urgent need of roads for those from who'e laud the thirds and fourths were derived, it seemed a question whether it would be advisable, under the circumstances, to charge auy portion of the cost of administration of the land fund against the amount so derived "
