THE LABOUR MARKET.
Mr Skene reports under date June 26 : — We are struggling through the winter by the skin of our teeth. How a great number exist is a mystery ; and yet we are told that the country is in a_ most flourishing condition. Strange contradiction, when hundreds of our very best workers are begging for work. There is a screw loose somewhere. But as a salve wo are promised cheap money and plenty of work soon— the sooner the better. Rabbiting is giving poor results this winter. Wages keep at old rates so far.
