SONNET.-MEMORY.
0 memory, maiden of tho dreamy eyes, Oft have I sought thee in the lonely wood, Or on the steep hillside at evenfall, Or when in dim mirage the misty plain . Draws wondrous visions 'twixt the earth ana
skies ; And with thee in the meadows have I stood In converse sweet, and made to live again Old childhood shadows trooping at thy call. Thou comest at will, a touch to soften pain, Thou glidest near a shade to temper joy, And sometimes showing when all life seems vain A pearl amid the desert of lost days, Or in the ruddy golden coin of praise The brazen dross of Flattery's alloy. —David M'Kee Wright. Tabletops, Hakateramea Valley, June 1894.
