ROSLYN BOWLING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Roslyn Bowling Club was held on Saturday night in the Roslyn Council Chambers. Mr W. C. Allnutt (president) occupied the chair, and there were about 20 members present. ANNUAL. REPORT. The following is a summary of the annual report submitted : — A special general meeting of the club wag held on August 17, 1893, when the subscription was increased to 265, with a view of setting aside the extra 4s to the sinking fund account. This had been done, with the result that a much larger amount had been carried forward, as would be seen from the treasurer's report. The lease in connection with the ground had been renewed for another seven years, and the club were now in a position to purchase the green any time up to the 18th of April 1900. All the old covenants had been kept alive, and the committee trusted that members would do their utmost to acquire the property. The club were greatly indebted to Mr Peter Duncan and Mr J. B. Callan for their many gratuitous services. The green was opened for play on Saturday, October 7, 1893, and, though the club was somewhat unfortunate as regards the weatherduringtheearlypartoftheseason.thisonly tended to increase the interest towards the close. In a tabulated form it was shown that out of nine matches played seven were won and two lost. This result would be regarded as a special record in the history of the club considering only 13 points werescoied above it in the two matches lost,* while on the other hand there was a surplus of 182 points in the seven games won. During the Easter holidays the club amalgamated with the Dunedin Club, so that a series of games might be participated in in the most friendly manner. Several of the Roslyn were winners, and complete success in the way of pleasure crowned the efforts of the bowlers. The several prizes presented by the officers of the club had been competed for, with the following result :— President's prize (Mr W. C. Allnutt), a pair of jelly dishes, won [by Mr R T. Wheeler, jun. ; vice-president's Erize (Mr R. Chisholm), a bowling bag, won y Mr David Scott ; treasurer's prize (Mr R. Crawford), won by Mr William Wilson; secretary's prize (Mr R. T. Wheeler, jun.), a pair of bowls, won by Mr David Scott. During the season the club had lost 14 members and admitted seven, the total number on the roll being 40, including honorary niembere. The thanks of the club were due to Messrs J. P. M'Kay and W. Yuill for the excellent and painstaking manner in which their duties as a Green Committee had been carried out. The committee desired to express their satisfaction with Mr Williamson's services as caretaker during the past season.

The balance sheet, which showed that the receipts were £62 10s and the expenditure £54 2s 95, leaving a credit balance of £8 7s 3d, was then read.

The President, in moving the adoption of the report, referred at some length to the successful season they had had, and to the fact of them having a credit balance in hand.

Mr R. Watson seconded the adoption of the report, and regretted a lady was not present to present the prizes. He thought that in future they should have a lady — a young lady especially — to present the prizes. The report and balance sheet were then adopted, and the presentation of prizes followed. OFFICE-BEARERS. The following were the office-bearers elected : President, Mr R. T. Wheeler, jun. ; vicepresident, Mr W. Wilson ; secretary, Mr A. Matheson ; treasurer, Mr R. Crawford (reelected) ; committee — Messrs W. Yuilf, W. Brown, D. Scott, R. Watson, and A. Clapperton ; auditors, Messrs D. Dickie and P. Mackenzie. Votes of thanks were accorded co the retiring officers. THE BOWLING ASSOCIATION. Mr Wheeler (who now occupied the chair) referred to the question of joining the Bowling Association, which, he mentioned, had been remodelled since they seceded from it, and certain objections that existed in the past had ceased to exist now. Mr Scott, to open a discussion on the question, moved that the club become reaffiliated to the association as now formed. Mr Dickie seconded. Mr Ytriix suggested that, considering the smallness of the attendance, the question should not be decided at that meeting, but it was pointed out that they probably would not get a larger gathering of members. Mr Matheson, seeing that it was evident that members were not anxious to join the association, moved that the matter be left in the hands 'of the committee to see whether they should rejoin the association or not. They might see how the association was going to shape, and it would be quite easy for the committee to call a meeting in the bowl house to decide the question. After further discussion Mr Matheson withdrew his amendment, and the motion was carried unanimously. At a subsequent stage of the proceedings Mr Yuill said he was told that the club were to be penalised if they re-joined the association. The statement came from the president of the association. Mr Ceawford said that in the presence of Mr Butts the president of the association had said that if the Roslyn Club re-joined they would have to pay for the back Beasom. He (Mr Crawford) had replied that his club would not take very kindly to that, but since then he understood that the members of the association had made up their minds not to charge for that subscription. Mr Yuill : If they are going to do such a thing I put up my back at once. Messrs Wheeler and Allnutt were appointed delegates to attend the association's meetings, and the matter dropped. '
