DUNEDIN HOUNDS.
Saturday's meet at Wakari proved no exception to the large attendances at all the fixtures of this pack during the season. At the appointed time 65 riders (inclusive of several ladies), all well mounted, also a goodly array of vehicles of various descriptions were assembled near Mr Passmore's residence. The going was very heavy owing to the late rains, and some of the fences were of a very stiff nature, whi<>h no doubt accounted for the -number of falle, none of which, however, resulted in more than a temporary ironveciince. Operations commenced by the negotiation of a very high, stiff hedge, flagged out; then a 6lip rail and stone wall, landing into a road, then through a shrubby crossing, another double, v*hen a shrinkage of followers was very noticeable, arising in some instances from misadventure, and in others from want of skill, either in the riders or their steeds. Waitangi bungled on to his head, giving Frank Smith a shaking and a scratched face. Vidette and Stockfish followed suit. Moonlight also made a mistake, ?nd Armature and Nenthorn were stuck up. To complete the chapter of casualties, Mr
Reid's horse slid into a fence. The last fences were rasping post and rails, 4-ft 6in each. About five completed the journey over these — Mr Driver on Pioneer (who jumped like a stag), Mr James Cotton on Kelly, Mr lteid on Highland Chief, Mr Thomas Cotton on Armstrong, and, I think, Mr Farquharson on a chestnut mare, and the whip on old Waitangi. On the re turn journey both the Messrs Cot ton's mounts came down at the same jump, the one being landed on the other's shoulders. The fixture for next Saturday is not finally decided on. NIMROD.
