WAIWERA.

June 19.— For several weeks past things have been jogging along much in the old way, and with little change. The weather on the whole has been favourable for the season of the year. We have certainly had some rain, a little frost, and a sprinkling of snow on the hilltops. As we are near the shortest day, I consider the season so far has been remarkably fine. Stock of every kind continue to do well, with food everywhere plentiful—especially turnips. Among the many good crops in the district, Mr Murray, of Hosevale farm, has a really grand crop of broadcast, the roots being even, large, and solid. They were grown on their highest ground, and without manure of any kind. lam sure if a sample lot had been sent to the show they would have compared favourably with the best there. Business, <fee. — Tilings generally are pretty quiet, business everywhere being dull, and very little money being circulated. Even amusements of any kind have been very few indeed. There seems at present, however, a little move in that direction, as I hear of a probable entertainment in the near future.

Bunny. — The rabbits are certainly much scarcer than they have been for many years at this time of the year. Mr Deans lately turned out several opossums in the Cairn Bush, which is really a grand place for them. It is to be hoped they will be left unmolested by sportsmen until they become plentiful enough to be taken in large numbers to be turned to ■profitable account. Tho settlers around the locality are quite pleased at the steps taken in this direction by the Acclimatisation Society.
