HINDON.
June 19.— Ihe weather in this locality has lately been very wet, and the roads in consequence of this and the grain carting are almost impassable. We have a very good road man, but his lopg-handled shovel will never make mud roads into macadam, and so man and beast suffer until we can raise more funds to metal tha highways. Cemetery.— A ball is to come off on Friday evening next in-aid of the funds of the cemetery trust, and as the sum of money so obtained will no doubt be small it will be spent to the best advantage if tenders are called for the work to be done.
Wild Boar Hunting.— A wild boar which has for years been roaming about the bush near the Lea was shot the other day by Mr P. Mackenzie. It frequented among other places a section of Mr Mackenzie's near Mount Hyde, and was' supposed to have a- fancy for young lambs. In consequence of this a hunting party was organised-, and after a lot of scrambling through thick bush and lawyert the boar was started by the dogs, aud a well directed bullet killed it on the spot. I saw some of the skin, which was over Sin thick and must have been almost bullet-proof. The head with tusks is being frozen, as it is being sent home to the " land of cakes."
