The fol^ving items are from the TuapekaTimes : — All tin rights in the North 'of Ireland Goldmining Company, Blue Spur, together with the plant and water races, were knocked down on Wednesday by John Thompson to Mr T. Marks, on behalf of Messrs Kitto and party. The purchase money was i! 1005. — In a recent iasue we s iggested that the unemployed should be sent out under approved conditions for the purpose of prospecting known auriferous country, and we are please! to see that the subject is likely to meet with, careful consideration from the Government The adoption of this plan iv the sister colonie3 has been productive of a vast amount of good. Upwards of 10,000 miners h%ve been sent out of Sydney and its neighbourhood by the Mines department of New South Wales during the past 12 months, and it is considered that in so doiug the country will reap substantial benefit ia the development of new finds, chiefly brought to light by men who have been assisted. We also learn that scarcely a day passe 3 now but the Mines department of Victoria receives from its officers intelligence of ' new reefing discoveries, and of so much importance are these looked upon that the press of that colony are giving more than mual publicity to them, and assisting in every form the development of what they term an industry that will do more' than anything else to bring about speedily the reviving fortunes of the coleny. Mr Joseph Taylor, M.F.I M.E., for some years certificated teacher of mining under the English Government Department of Science and Art, and travelling mining lecturer to the Staffordshire County Council, recently visited and carefully examined the districts about Westport, Reefton, B runner, Danniston.Collingwood.a.nd Nelson. Mr Taylor describes the province of Nelson as a topographically, geologically, and mineralogically, the roughest and richest he has ever seen. He is especially impressed with the hrematite ironstone of Parapara, and with the mineral and industrial possibilities of the Collingwood district, and is reporting to the old country with a view to encouraging the investment of British capital. A Lyell correspondent telegraphs :—": — " Mr Butler repsrts that the Lyell Creek Company's contractors have driven 10ft for the week, making a total distance of 19ft from the start of the deviation. The country pierced is of the same character as reported last week, consisting of slate with, pug seams intervening. Water is flo *ing freely." The tributers of the Cromwell mine are hopeful of getting a good crushing from the stone they are now taking out. They are at the same time prospecting new ground. — Cromwell Argus. The Achilles gold fields, Bullendale, are still crushing good payable stone from No. 3 level, and they intend shortly to open up the new level, No,

4, which is expected to yield equally well. A new pump, however, will have to be procured for this last work. Aa a rule 20_ head of stampers are kept going, but the number is occasionally reduced, as the management are working with a view to proper development of the mine, as well as immediate reproductiveness on getting out of stone. — Lake Wakatipu Mail.
