THE GAELIC SOCIETY.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society was held on the 7th- in the Oddfellows Hall, .Stuart street, Mr Dugald M'Lachlan presiding. There was alargSAtiend^nce oi members and friends, heartily enjoyed the VanouS items, **i;he entertainment provided for them. ""In a Gaelic speech, translated into English, the chairman presented Master E. Clark with the society s gold medal which he had won at the Caledonian Society's recent sports for the best all round Highland dancing. Master Clark, who was dressed in Highland costume, gracefully responded, and Bhowed his appreciation of the honour conferred upon him by dancing the High, land fling in his best style. The concert which followed was more than usually attractive, there being a great number of singers who all acquitted themselves remarkably well, the contributors in this capacity being Mrs Campbell, Mrs Chisholm, Miss M'Donald, Miss Ruston, and Miss M'Crae, also Messrs M. M'Ritcbie, H. M'Lean, c! MKenzie, D. Henderson, D. Matheson, and R Sinclair. Mr J. Gillies recited " Waterloo" with rare elocutionary ability, and the secretary related some Highland anecdotes of the olden time. He also acknowledged receipt of a valuable book presented to the library by Mr H. Chisholm, and in the name of the society thanked the donor for the gift. The pipes were played by Messrs J. M'Kechnie, sen , J. Murray, and J. M'Kechnie, jun.
