WAIKOIKOI.

December 29.— We had almost lost hopes of having any summer weather, but we are not yet to be wholly disappointed, as the days are now warm, and but for a Btrong east wind would be quite pleasant. To-day the wind has not made its appearance, and this is one of New Zealand's " perfect " days. It is to be hoped it will continue, so that the many pleasuro-seekers may thoroughly enjoy themselves. Sports.— On New Year's Day there is an annual gathering at KelßO, and also a very enjoyable picnic on the Tapanui Flat. I think Waikoikoi is somewhat behind the times in not having a festivity of some description on this day. Valedictory. — The Rev. W. Scorgie, who takes his departure early in the beginning of the year, presided at the annual congregational meeting of the Waikoikoi Church on Thursday night. Towards the close of the meeting the rev. gentleman appeared to feel his leave-taking very much. The people here wish both Mr and Mrs Scorgie success in their new field of labour.

Shearing.— Mr J. R. M'Kenzie is now in the thick of his shearing. Mail Contractor. — Mr Alexander Reid, who is widely known and highly respected, has carried our mails now from Pomahaka Biding for some years. Mr Reid is invariably very obliging, and we all wish him a very happy New Year.
