A cricket team, which will be practically a New South "Wales representative Second Eleven, leaves for Auckland on the 13th January on a tour through New Zealand. The team has not yet been selected. Melbourne, December 27. The second innings of the New South Wales against Victoria eleven closed for 174 runs. Murdoch (not out) 61-, M'Kenzie 33, and Iredale 37 were the chief scorers. With 204 to make to win the home team began their second innings, and had lost three wickets for 71 runs, when play was stopped by rain. December 28. Owing to rain the cricket match Victoria v. New South Wales was not resumed to-day. Further evidence of the bad feeling which existed amongst certain members of the Australian Eleven during the English tour was given to-day at the reception tendered to the South Australian team, for when George Giffen was called upon to speak Bannerman, who was among those present, at once rose and left the room. Blackham, Graham, and Trumble have intimated to the Selection Committee that they will be unable to play for Victoria in the forthcoming match against South Australia. December 31. The intercolonial match, which was interrupted by rain, was completed yesterday. The Victorians, requiring 204 to win, knocked up the necessary runs with the loss of seven wickets. Trott increased his score to 54 and Graham made 68. January 1. The match Victoria v. South Australia began to-day. The weather was beautifully fine, and the wicket in good order. The visitors batted first, and made 272 — A. Jarvis 51, Lyons 31, I Darling (not out) 63, Jones 42. January 2. The first innings of Victoria closed for 181 runs, or 91 behind their opponents. The chief scorers were : Harry 24, Bruce 56, Worrall 43. In their second innings South Australia have lost one wicket for 69 runs. A. Jarvis and George Giffen are not out with 26 each.
