August 7.— At a meeting of the borough council held last week, it was unanimously agreed that the council take over the land lately presented to them by the Dunedin Corporation for the purpose of widening the road. The conditions' imposed make it rather difficult for the council to comply with, as the road has to be •font ed and all metalled throughout, which will ' entail considerable expense. The land in this vicinity will in all probability in & very short time become valuable, and the council were wise to decide to proceed at once with the work, or it is just possible that the corporation might have refuted their offer. Ardor Day.— A conference [has been convened for' Wednesday evening between the, borough council and the school committee to discuss the question of whether they will celebrate Arbor Dw this year or not. New Coast Road.— l understand the Bruce County Council purpose closing for a time the road known as the new coast road, running past two of our small mines, at present worked by the Castle Hill Company and Mr G. Cormack respectively. This road has only been formed, and has never.been metalled, and should the owners be debarred from driving on the road the residents of Kaitangata will be inconvenienced in more ways than one, to say nothing of the loss to the mine "owners. ___
