OUTRAM.
August 8. -Arbor Day was observed at Outrun, by the Domain Board, school committee, teachera and pupils of the local school, and'a few others, including the Rev. Jameß Kvrkland, engaging in tree planting. The Domain Board provided the trees, fenced off a strip of ground for their reception, an&had pits dug for them, so that all that remainedto be done was to set a tree in the centre of each pit and put .the earth about it. Tbe teachers and their pupils were in full muster, and all present got one tree to plant, and a goodly number a second tree. Mr Snow, as chairman of the Domain Board, and Mr Ghisholm, as member of school committee, suitably addressed thechildren, and on the suggestion of Mr Ohisholm, the pupils nominated 12 girls and 12 boya as a vigilance committee, with the schoolmistress, Miss Dale, as head over the girls, and Mr White, head master, as head over the boys, the pupils to nominate tfßbther to fill any vacanoythat may occur, and bo keep up the interest and responsibility of the committee in looking after the trees. Among the trees planted were four dozen nut trees of various sorts— walnut?, chestnuts, hazelnuts, Ac. Mr White, the head master, on behalf of the teachers and pupils, returned thanks to the committee and Domain Board, after which all present were invited to partake of a lunch in the shape of buns and tea kindly, provided by the board. After lunch numbers of' the young folks scampered into the bmh close by in search of ferns and mosses, which' are in abundance in that locality, and they were to be met in small companies on the road home in the afternoon, having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The domain reserve, in which the trees were planted, is near the West Taieri bridge, and it would be difficult to find a prettier r place for reossation. or one with a finer view of the whole Taieri Plain from Moffgiel to Waihola lake.
