COURSING.

FIXTURES. August 9, 10, 11.— Champion Stakes, Maiden Stakes, and Sapling Stakes. August 24— Oamaru.— Bracelet Stake. NOTES BIT MISTER M'GEATH. It is said that the stud dog Red Pine was killed a short while ago. Last week I promised to try and make up Pine Hut's pedigree. I have spent some time on the job, but cannot carry the pedigree far enough back to warrant the publication of a regular table. I may, however, say that Pine Hut is by Red Pine from Fly 11, by Ben from Broadway's Fly. This breeding makes Pine Hut's dam full sister to Rhododendron, Cineraria, and Carnation. Coursing pedigrees in New Zealand are as a matter of fact a perfect nuisance to those who worry over them. We sadly want a stud book or some similar publication. OAMARU COURSING CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The club was favoured with "Queen's" weather for the North Otago Champion Stake, , which was decided on Thursday last on Mr H'Lean's estate, Peebles. The slake, although open, did not attract owners very much, as only eight nominations were received, so that after the second round was completed the officials decided upon having a Supplementary

Stake for four dogs, and this, along with (he big event, was got off in good time. Pass was very plentiful, and although Mr Procter did not take the first pair of dogs in hand until nearly 11 o'clock, the two rounds were finished by a little after noon, the final being run after thefirstroundof the Supplementary. The winner turned up, in a first season dog by Newton — Misfortune, owned by a good sport who courses under the now, de plume of G. Grimshaw. Auld Toon proved himself to be a fair greyhound, as he led all his opponents in fine style, and worked his game very closely. The runner-up, Unfortunate, is a full brother to the winner, and he showed a lot of pace in all his trials, but he had to go down in the final, as Auld Toon was at puss first and had a good credit before the red got an opening, but he did not have much show, as the black dog was by far the" keenest. The Supplementary Stake fell to" Bluestone, and all were pleased at Messrs Qrimshaw and Gardiner getting a win. Mr W- Macaulay, Totara Park, acted as hon. judge for the club, and it is needless to say thai not once was his decision questioned. The slippers, Messrs Procter and Gardiner, sent | their charges away in fine style. At the conclusion of the day's sport, the president of the j club (Mr W. Gardiner), in a neat speech, proposed a vote of thanks to Mr M 'Lean, for the use of his land ; to Mr Macaulay, the slippers, winners, and losers. Three cheers for all were then given, and thus ended a pleasant day's outing. The following are the results :-— North Otago Champion Stakes.— Winner, £12 and the President's Cup, value £5 ss ; runner- - up, £7. Mr G. Unfortunate led Annie Laurie by half a dozen lengths, turned twice, and Annie got a single, the dog another, Annie another, and the red killed. Jack Tar led and made six'before the white dog got a single, and keeping possession he made four, and, Jack tiring, left him to go on and use puss freely and secure the verdict. Second Round.— Auld Toon led Katie by a dozen lengths, and using his game in fine style, never allowed the slut a point in a good course before he drove puss to cover. Unfortunate led Opawa by eight lengths, turned, and getting in agiin made four more ; the Timara representative then made a couple, but the red dog raced by him for the next, and, puss- bending, the white dog made three, but in a long course he could not reduce the red dog's score before puss got away. Final.— From a good slip Auld Toon reached puss first by two lengths, turned, and keeping possession, made another brace ; the red dog scored a single and a wrench, and drove puss through into another paddock, where the black was again in first, and, using puss freely, never allowed the red in again. Marco was half a dozen lengths faster than Annie Laurie, and, working his nare in fine style, had much the better of the spin, as puss escaped Annie only scoring a few points on sufferance. Final.— After an undecided, Bluestone reached puss first, turned," and Berving himself again, made another brace, placing Marco : he scored a single, and he drove puas into an adjoining paddock, where he scored two wrenches, and puss escaped, leaving the blue dog a winner.
