MISCELLANEOUS.

The Bendigo correspondent •. of the Cromwell Argus writes :— lt is reported here that a block of stone in the old Cromwell mine has been found, the extent of which has not yet transpired, but it is said' that, the tin dish washings show gold to the value of 2oz to the ton, and there is more to follow. .... ... The Dunstan Times states that it is reported for the future that owners of dredges at Clyde and Alexandra do not intend to give any particulars of the results obtained by them. These owners are granted a monopolj of certain portions of the river, and the least that can be expected is the publication of the returns. Our contemporary further says :— The Roxburgh Dredging Company, we learn has obtained one of the large3t returns of gold ever obtained by a dredge on the Molyneux. The yield, is the result of a fortnight's work. Owing to that reticence which is a distinguished characteristic of dredge, owners on the Molyneux river, we are not in a position to state the number of ounces obtained. Our Auckland , correspondent telegraphs :— " Amongst the recent arrivals by the s.s. Coptic is Mr Marricks, the agent of a London syndicate. He came on to Auckland from Wellington. Mr Marricks is the accredited agent of an English syndicate, by whom he has been sent to New Zealand primarily to report on the Puhipuhi silver mines and on the Queen of Beauty mine at the Thames. His visit is one of considerable importance to both districts, for on his report will largely depend whether the syndicate undertake the erection of plant suitable for the extraction of silver from Puhipuhi ores, arid whether the prospects warrant the expenditure. He will leave for Whangarel en route for Puhipuhi, and next week he will visit the Thames to inspect to Queen of Beauty mine, which is under, offer to his syndicate. Should he decide favourably the syndicate are prepared to erect suitable pumping machinery in order to carry on mining operations at deeper levels than the 700 ft already attained. Mr Marricks will aho visit Ohinemuri district to see the Crown Company's mines and plant at Karangahake, and the Waihi Company's mine and plant. On concluding his inspection of mines in the Auckland district, Mr Marricks will proceed to Nelson to inspect other properties which are under offer to his syndicate. The manager of the Roxburgh Amalgamated Mining and Sluicing Company (Limited) reports for the week ending 15th inst. that he had kept two elevators constantly going during the week Started opening up No. 4 elevator on Friday ; it will take nearly a fortnight to reach the bottom, there being a large quantity of stone in the paddock on the top of the wash. Finished No. 1 paddock on Friday, and shall wash down boxes on Monday. The manager telegraphed yesterday that h« had washed down No. 1 run and obtained 25jz lOdwt, the result of 10 days' elevating.
