Mr Pearson has disposed of Poinsettia to Mr Sewell. of Stony creek. The Wellington Steeplechase on Monday fell to •the Hon J. D Ormond throueh the agency of a smart chestnut mai-e named Victrix, a daughter of Gladiator and Swindle, which he purchased after she won the Amateur Steeplechase at Eawke's Bay. All the acceptors (15) lined out for

this steeplechase, and after Mr Powell had a little delay in fixing them up Victrix and Caloola were the first to catch the fall of the flag, with the others bunched until after the first jump, when they lengthened out like the evening shadows, some capital jumping being shown. After about a mile had been covered Victrix had over a, dozen lengths lead from Bide-a-Wee, Flywheel next, then Chester. Iroquois, Gondolier, Parnell) Caloola, and Waterbury, with the others close by. The Dromedary fell on the flat at Wards. Bide-a-Wee gradually closed in on Victrix and was about a length behind at the water jump. Coming up to this obstacle Chester " turned a seven and rolled over into tha water. Caloola refused the sod wall, and through Iroquois blundering Powell fell on his neck with anything but a fond embrace. He tried his hardest to get back into the saddle, but all efforts were in vain, and the brief struggle ended in a jobble and wobble and a topple on to the sod, where he landed clear of Iroquois's feet. Victrix alternated the lead with Bide-a-Wee, Gondolier seeming to be content as "third fiddler," but Bide-a-Wee collapsed, and Victrix got a great lead, which was greatly increased through Waterburv'6 rider losing a stirrup leather, bnt nevertheless Hope rode hopefully, his passing of Gondolier in the run home being a line piece of work. He came so strong at the finish, that his supporters were praying for a few more lengths, but Gillies on Victrix was too clever, and he had his three lengths gap at the finish.
