There was a fair attendance of farmers aud others, but although satisfactory prices were obtained we do not consider ttiat trade was quite as brisk as it has been. Crossbred hoggets sold at from 12* to 13s 7d ; crossbred ewes, 12s 9d to 15s ; cull merinos at 3s 9d. On Tuesday, the 30th, we also held a sale of stock, implements, and other effects at Waikouaiti on premises kindly lent for the occasion by Mr J. A. Townsend. The lots were numerous, and to" compete for the same there was a good number of people present, the result being a clearance of nearly every line. There were not many sheep, but those to hand sold well. Of about 70 bead of cattle offered, the greater num-

ber consisted of dairy cows, for which a good demand existed, prices generally ranging from L 4 to L 5 per head. About 50 lots of sundries also changed, hands, but these call for no special mention. On the whole, this, our inaugural sale at Waikouaiti, may be considered a very satisfactory one. On Friday, August 26, our usual fortnightly sale was held at the Crown yards, Balclutha. The entry comprised about 1000 sheep and several lots' of cattle. Forward additional wethers brought from 14s to 15s 6d, halfbred hoggets 12s 10d, crossbred ewes 15s, cull ewes 10s. Wool.— Telegrams to hand last week report that there was a good attendance at the Antwerp wool sales, which opened on the 23rd inst. and that the bidding was conducted with animation. Previous' prices were maintained for all classes of wool. Later advices to hand are not quite so satisfactory, saying that competition was weak, and that pricas are now 5 ccutimes under the rates ruling on the opening day. Half of the quantities offered have been withdrawn. '1 he Bradford market continues steady, and price* show occasionally a slight advance, but the London market is quiet, since the close of the last series up to the 28th inst. the fresh arrivals have been 31!),000 bales. There are no transactions of any consequence being put through locally. Sheepskins.— On Tuesday last full catalogues were submitted to the usual large attendance of buyers, who competed well for all lota offered, especially for fairly woolled crossbred aud halfbred (It for shipment, and for these classes prices are at present very firm. [The individual reports of Wool, Rabbitskin, or Grain Brokers can be inserted in the Daily Times aiul Otago Witness at Special Hates.] GRAIN AND~siED REPORT. Messrs William E. Reynolds and Co. Stafford street, report for the week ending August 31 as follows :— We have been treated this week to real summer weather, and farmers are pushing on vigorously with the work of putting in their soed where the ground is dry enough, or preparing it with this intent. Wheat.— Since last reporting the market at Home has had another drop, and this is causing millers to operate very cautiously ; but now that the market there is so low it is on the tapis that a change may take place, as following up the old adage— after a calm comes a storm, and vice versa. So it may be said of the wheat market in Eng land, and even this in the face of their harvest being on. Sales during the week have been going on at old rate3— say, for prime milling velvet, and Tuscan, 3a 6d to 3a 9d; medium, 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; ordinary and fowl feed, 2s to 2s lOd. Oats.— We have all along stated that these would maintain recent advanced prices, and though a little quietness has been visible during the past few days prices have been maintained nevertheless, moro especially for heavy bright feed, which we quote up to 2a ; milling and seed as high as 2s 2d ; ordinary heavy feed, Is 9.Jd to Is lid ; medium and inferior, Is 6d to Is 9d. Barley.— There is still a demand for malting purposes, if prime, and a good 'price for such is obtainable. In the absence of samples, we refrain from quoting. Chaff.— Demand is not keeping pace with supplies, and L 2 12s 6d is all that is obtainable for extra prime screened. Potatoes.— Market still over supplied, and 27s 6d to 32s 6d is the best price obtainable for prime Derwents. Sseds.— In all sorts the demand is good, and we have placed some very large orders in all classes— viz., cocksfoot, ryegrass, aud clovers— and with a continuance of the present fine weather, more of a substantial character may be looked for. Our seeds are of exceptionally gooi quality, and we can thoroughly recommend them to farmers who are sowing down.
