TO THE EDITOR.
Sm,— At a meeting of the Clutha County Council on the 2l)th ult., a motion was proposed by Mr Thomas Brown, and seconded by Mr Hay, relative to the effect that the Catlins-Wakawa road is not required, and that the council declined to do anything whatever with it. Mr Brown stated that there was "no settlement in the district." Now is this done to wilfully mislead the public, or does Mr Brown really think that there are not any settlers beyond his dairy factor} ? Tho fact is that the land on both sides of the road, from the M'Kenzie bridge to Taukupu Bay, with the exception of four miles on the western side, it being under survey now, i 3 sold and settled on, and also up the Taukupu Valley there are nine selectors, several of whom arc living on their sections, the road indication being their only means of communication with the outer wo) M. —lam, Ac, W.
